Embrace Launches “Open Access” Cervical Screening Pilot to Improve Uptake in 25–34 Year Olds
Embrace, Wolverhampton’s Sexual Health Service, has launched a new “Open Access” cervical screening pilot to encourage women and people with a cervix, particularly those aged 25–34 who are overdue their cervical screening, to attend for their test.
Cervical screening, previously known as a smear test, checks the health of the cervix and helps prevent cervical cancer. It is offered to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64.
During the screening appointment, a small sample of cells will be taken from your cervix.
The sample is checked for certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause changes to the cells of your cervix. These are called high risk types of HPV.
Eligible patients can now book their cervical screening at Embrace at a time that is convenient to them:
- Monday to Thursday, 9am–8pm
- Friday, 9am–5pm
Evening appointments are popular and can get booked quickly, but we will do our best to accommodate your preferred time.
When booking an appointment, patients are advised to quote “Open Access” which helps the team to identify attenders taking part in the pilot. The reception team will highlight these appointments to ensure a seamless experience for patients and clinicians.
As part of your appointment, you will also be offered a free STI screen to help ensure your sexual health needs are up to date.
More information about cervical screening, including advice if you are feeling anxious about attending can be found on the Embrace website: Open access cervical screening :: Embrace Sexual Health
If you are aged 25–34 and are due or overdue your cervical screening, now is the time to book.
