A Wolverhampton GP practice and two of its Doctors have been recognised for their outstanding commitment to end-of-life care, receiving three prestigious accolades.

Lea Road Medical Practice, Dr Mona Sidhu and Dr Amy Thompson were all recognised at this year’s Daffodil Standards Awards.

The Daffodil Standards, designed by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) in partnership with Marie Curie, help practice teams to spot areas for improvement and build on the quality of care they provide.

The awards, which have now entered their third year, spotlight the work of GP practice teams committed to driving improvements in palliative and end-of-life care.

At the award ceremony, which took place at the RCGP Annual Conference earlier this month, Dr Mona Sidhu, GP for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s Primary Care Network and Primary Care Medical Director for Black Country Integrated Care Board, won GP of the Year, and Dr Amy Thompson won GP Registrar of the Year.

Both winners were awarded for their dedication and achievements at Lea Road Medical Practice, which also received a Highly Commended award in the GP Practice of the Year category.

Dr Sidhu, GP for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s Primary Care Network and Primary Care Medical Director for Black Country Integrated Care Board, said: “It’s an incredible honour to receive the GP of the Year Award for the Daffodil Standards. This work is deeply personal – ensuring every patient receives compassionate, dignified care at the end of life. I’m proud to represent the dedication of so many colleagues who make this possible every day.”

Dr Thompson, GP Registrar at Lea Road Medical Practice, said: “I feel so humbled to receive this award. End-of-life care is about giving people the kind of care you’d want for your own family – care that is human, kind and dignified. It’s a real privilege to do this work and to have it recognised in this way.”
